Please explain the term Deus Ex Machina, literary and tell how it operates in "Medea" the classical Greek play

Thankyou all in advance :-)Please explain the term Deus Ex Machina, literary and tell how it operates in "Medea" the classical Greek play
After Medea kills Jason's children, and Jason returns to punish her, Medea appears in the chariot of the sun god Helios. If this were to occur in real life, she would have been on this "crane" of sorts, that would lift her and the chariot up above the stage in order to show that the gods had intervened.

The term Deus Ex Machina refers to situations in which an artificial or improbable character, device, or event is introduced suddenly into a work of drama to resolve a situation or untangle the plot. A "mechane" (crane) was used to lower actors playing a god or gods onto the stage. Medea is one of the few plays which uses a human instead of a god. Though the phrase is accurately translated as "God from a machine," in literary criticism, it is often translated to "God on a machine."[citation needed] The machine referred to in the phrase is the crane employed in the task.
