deus ex machina is when the hero of the story is "saved by god" not necessarily literally but its kinda like when the hero is about to die and then somehow out of nowhere he is saved! like in the second harry potter when he is in the chamber of secrets and the sword is dropped by the phoenix who cries on him and saves his life.
