Can people list examples of deus ex machina in famous and well known works? Thank you very muchDeus Ex Machina in famous works (books and movies)?
Lord of the flies.
In a case where about 20 kids crash land on an island... Ralph which happens to be the oldest finds a conch which he uses to assemble all the kids who are scattered around the island. This is completely improbable. Especially for an already improbably event.Deus Ex Machina in famous works (books and movies)?
I agree with the first answerer as far as "Lord of the Flies" goes, but the ending of the book is far more "deus ex machina-y." Just as the boys are going into all out warfare, burning the island, and Ralph is about to be killed, the Royal British Navy shows up and whisks all the boys off to be nice, civilized, and British again. It's really improbable, but the navy guy gets to deliver that great line at the end: "I should have thought that a pack of British boys--you're all British, aren't you--would have put up a better show than that." *shakin' head*Deus Ex Machina in famous works (books and movies)?
